Nepali Congress student wing in crisis as leadership fails to hold convention again

Nepal Students Union

Kathmandu, January 11

The main opposition party Nepali Congress’ student wing, Nepal Students Union, has failed to hold its general convention once again.

The Union’s current executive committee’s original term expired in August last year. Then, the mother party had extended the term by three months.

The Union could not hold the meeting in the extended term also, which forced the party to extend the time by two more months. The second extended term is expiring coming Wednesday.

The Union’s president Nain Singh Mahar had scheduled the convention for Saturday. However, it is certain now that the meeting will not be held.

Meanwhile, seven officials of Mahar’s committee tendered their resignation to the party President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, on Friday afternoon.

The Union’s vice president Sanjaya Kumar Yadav says the seven officials resigned due to repeated failures to hold the convention.

“The Union cannot go ahead in status quo. Therefore, we submitted the resignation so as to give an outlet,” he states.
