Kathmandu, May 19
Whereas media reports have claimed that factional politics is at its peak in the main opposition Nepali Congress, the party has claimed that its district presidents’ gathering, which will begin in Hetaunda of Makawanpur today, will give the message of unity to its leaders and cadres.
President of the party in Makawanpur, the host district, Indra Baniya, says the gathering will give the message that factionalism has ended in the party and it is unified in its remaking.
“It is too difficult to face the current political situation without our unity. Therefore, we will focus on making the party stronger.”
However, it has been learned that two factions of the party are preparing hard to show themselves stronger in the event.
Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba will inaugurate the meeting at local Palpasa Hall at 11 am today.
Party spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma says the three-day event will discuss amendments to the party statute, next general convention, organisation strengthening and other contemporary political issues.
The closed door session of the meeting will begin on Wednesday. During the session, district presidents will express their opinions about the agendas and report the status of party in district politics.
