Nepali Congress, RPP allowed to field candidates in all districts

Kathmandu, March 23

Nepal’s Election Commission has decided to allow the Nepali Congress and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party to field candidates in all districts for the May 14 civic elections

Both the parties had missed registration deadlines in several districts and had been disqualified from fielding candidates in the districts concerned.

The commission decided to grant the parties waiver after they furnished an explanation as to why they missed the deadline. RPP spokesperson Sushil Kumar Shrestha confirmed that his party has been granted registration in districts where the deadline was missed. According to reports, the Election Commission halted printing of ballots for sometime to accommodate big parties that missed the deadline.
