As many as 56 of 77 district presidents of the main opposition Nepali Congress party have objected to a recent decision of the party’s Central Working Committee to amend the party statute.

They have argued that party president Sher Bahadur Deuba could not keep his promise about the amendments in the recent decision.

They argue that Deuba had expressed commitments to introduce provisions that the central leaders should also get elected from the local level to become a representative to the general election and one person can enjoy the reservation only once during the mahasamiti meeting held last December.

However, the CWC decision is against both the commitments, according to them.

They have demanded that the decision be corrected at the earliest.

The district presidents have warned of pressing the party for a special general convention if their demand was not heeded.
