Nepali Congress blocks parliamentary hearing process of constitutional body nominees

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Kathmandu, January 28

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, on Monday blocked the decision making process of Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee.

The Committee meeting held today was scheduled to issue a call for complaints against five persons nominated to head five constitutional bodies.

However, opposition lawmakers protested the nomination made by the Constitutional Council few days ago, claiming the main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, also a Council member, was absent at the Council meeting.

Therefore, the meeting ended without any conclusion, according to undersecretary Keshav Aryal.

The Council had nominated Balananda Paudel for Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, Shanta Raj Subedi for National Inclusive Commission, Bijaya Kumar Datta for Madheshi Commission, Bishnu Kumar Chaudhary for Tharu Commission and Samim Ansari for Muslim Commission.

Earlier, senior leader of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Paudel, had claimed the government was filling the constitutional bodies with communist cadres.
