Nepali Congress adopts new strategy against govt, might resort to House obstruction

The main opposition Nepali Congress has adopted a new strategic policy, according to which the party will raise voices against the incumbent KP Sharma Oli-led government from five fronts.

The party says it will put pressure on the government from Parliament, streets, media, social media and peaceful protest.

Major issues that the party is planning to raise against the government are recent rainfall-induced disasters, the fast-unto-death of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC, demand of Ganga Maya Adhikari, the order about restriction in protests in Kathmandu and inflation among others.

“It will be difficult for the government to resist our pressure once it begins to pour from all sides,” according to Congress Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand.

Meanwhile, the Congress has called a meeting of its parliamentary party for Wednesday afternoon. It is expected that top leaders of the party will direct the lawmakers to play effective roles in Parliament.

The party will instruct lawmakers to resort to House obstruction if necessary, Khand hints, adding, “We will present ourselves strongly in federal and provincial parliaments. We can do anything permitted by the law for that.”
