Nepal records ‘first human death’ from bird flu

Kathmandu, May 2

A 21-year-old boy has died of bird flu in Kavre. This is the first time in Nepal that any person has died of bird flu, according to the government.

The Ministry of Health and Population on Thursday hosted a press conference to inform the incident.

DNA and blood samples of the deceased had been sent to Japan for tests. The report confirmed that the 21-year-old died of bird flu. The test report came to Nepal on April 30.

Since the first human case in 1997, bird flu has killed nearly 60% of the people who have been infected.
