Nepal police bust counterfeit note racket, arrest five people

Kathmandu, October 21

Nepal Police have arrested the members of a racket allegedly involved in printing and distribution of counterfeit Nepali currency. Officials have also seized over Rs 370,000 in fake notes from various locations in the Valley on Sunday.

An operation was launched to hunt down the members of the racket after reports said that counterfeit notes were being circulated in Kathmandu on the eve of Dashain, the biggest festival of the country. The arrests come two days after police arrested two people with 29 fake bank notes of thousand denomination. Authorities are learnt to have received information on the other members of the racket from the two people arrested on Friday.

On Sunday, police raided a house in Machhegaun, Lalitpur and different locations in the city to arrest five people. During the raids, police have recovered photocopy machines that were used to print fake notes.
