Nepal PM Prachanda, UN resident rep Julliand discuss transitional justice, TRC

Kathmandu, February 16

Prime Minister Prachanda and United Nations’ Resident Representative Valerie Julliand held talks in Singhadurbar on Thursday.

The meeting focused on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and transitional justice.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Prachanda described Nepal’s peace process as homegrown and said it is heading towards success. He said his government is committed to abiding international laws and values in matters related to transitional justice.

PM thanked the United Nations for its role in the peace process and its assistance in the post-quake reconstruction work. He also asked for continued assistance from the world body. At the meeting, Julliand proposed holding a mini-conference of donor agencies that are providing assistance for Nepal’s development.
