Kathmandu, August 21
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday has published the schedule of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s state visit to India beginning on Wednesday.
The Ministry says Deuba will land in New Delhi on Wednesday, August 24, and stay at the Rashtrapati Bhawan as the state guest.
Other programmes during the visit include:
August 24
- Attend the Ceremonial Reception and inspect a Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhawan
- Pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat
- Pay separate calls on Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu
- Hold official meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi
- Attend a banquet lunch hosted by Modi in his honour
- Hold meetings with senior Cabinet members of the Government of India
August 25-26
- Attend a reception hosted in his honour by Nepali Ambassador to India
- Have an interaction with the Nepali community
- Interact with intellectual circle and business community in New Delhi
- Visit Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar states of India
August 27
- Return home
Deuba will be accompanied by his wife Arzu Rana, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara, other ministers, lawmakers and high government officials.
It is Deuba’s first foreign trip after his election to the premiership in June.
Laxmanpur dam, Koshi barrage on the agenda
Meanwhile, a Cabinet meeting held today endorsed agendas of the PM’s visit.
According to a source, the PM will discuss control and management of Koshi barrage and Laxmanpur dam in the wake of recent floods in Terai.
The government is under pressure to talk with India over these issues as people from various walks of life blamed those blockages for causing inundations in Nepal.
Likewise, the government also decided to talk with India about the support India had committed for post-earthquake reconstruction.
Government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Bahadur Basnet says the PM’s delegation will also discuss Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project, and1950 Peace and Friendship Treaty among other issues.
