Nepal local polls: Five ex-MPs in mayoral race

Kathmandu, May 3

It seems that parties have given a considerable importance to local level elections as they have fielded former lawmakers to lead local levels.

Former lawmakers running for mayors of cities has been a news as the mayoral position otherwise would have been considered a low-profile post in comparison to that of a lawmaker earlier.

So far, as least five lawmakers are found to have filed nominations for the May 14 elections.

They are:

  1. Sunil Prajatari from Nepal Workers and Peasants Party in Bhaktapur Municipality of Bhaktapur district
  2. Kumari Moktan from CPN-Maoist Centre in Hetaunda Sub-Metropolitan City of Makawanpur district
  3. Tara Narayan Shrestha from CPN-Maoist Centre in Manthali Municipality of Ramechhap district
  4. Lalmani Chaudhary from CPN-UML in Khairahani Municipality of Chitwan district
  5. Gyanendra Kumar from Naya Shakti Party Nepal in Gorkha Municipality of Gorkha district

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s former Mayor Rajaram Shrestha is contesting for Deputy Mayor in the KMC from Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Former President of Ramechhap District Development Committee is contesting for the Mayor of Manthali from CPN-UML.
