Nepal, India discuss ship operation in Koshi, Narayani

Kathmandu, July 15

Officials of Nepal and India have begun a discussion on operating ship service in Koshi and Narayani rivers of Nepal.

Of late, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other members of his Cabinet have been floating the proposal of operating ship in Nepali rivers.

In this context, a bilateral joint secretary level meeting has begun in Kathmandu on Sunday. The meeting is expected to come up with a concrete plan of action for the operation of water transport.

The officials have already agreed that a Nepali team will visit Kalughat in Patna of India to study possible models.

Madhav Belbase, Joint Secretary at Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, says India has assured to provide all necessary support to launch the service.

During the India visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in April, the two countries had agreed to take initiatives to launch water transport in Nepal.

The meeting will conclude on Monday.
