Kathmandu, June 12
The government of Nepal has forwarded a proposal to the country’s private entrepreneurs, calling them to establish a partnership for a heavy equipment leasing company so as to expedite infrastructural development works.
During a meeting with private sector leaders recently, Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada said the establishment would address the problems caused by lack of heavy equipment in the construction business.
In response, the entrepreneurs also said they were positive about the proposal and further discussions would be needed to implement the plan.
“Major problems in the construction sector are due to our capacity. Contractors take big responsibilities though they do not have sufficient capacity and equipment,” Khatiwada said, “Keeping these things in mind, I proposed to establish a leasing and consultancy company jointly.”
Currently, the country borrows modern machinery from other countries including India and the United Arab Emirates. The government also does not have such equipment.
