Nepal-China energy cooperation meet kicks off in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, September 28

A key meeting between energy officials from Nepal and China has kicked off in Kathmandu.

According to officials involved in the meeting, the two sides will discuss ways to boost energy trade between the two neighbours.

The Nepali delegation is being led by Anup Kumar Upadhyay, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. The Chinese side is being led by International Economic Department’s Deputy Director Hi Yang.

The meeting was scheduled to begin on Thursday, but was postponed until Friday. Participants of the meeting are expected to deliberate on energy projections of both the countries, and the prospect of joint development of power generation and transmission projects.

The meeting is being organised to follow-up on agreements reached between the two countries during Prime Minister KP Oli’s recent visit to China.
