Nepal book place in women SAFF championship final

Nepal have reached the finals of the woman’s SAFF championship by beating Sri Lanka 4-0 in the first semi-final in Biratnagar.

Nepal took the lead when Punam Magar scored in the 41st minute of the game. Three second-half goals from Anita Basnet, Sabitra Bhandari and Rekha Paudel gave Nepal an easy win to book a place in the final of the competition.

Nepal had beaten Bhutan and Bangladesh in the group stage to reach the semi-final of the competition. Nepal will now face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Bangladesh taking place on Wednesday.

This will be Nepal’s fourth final since the competition began in 2010 finishing runner-ups all three times against India who are undefeated in the competition since 2010. India also beat Nepal in the 2016 semi-final of the competition.

The final will take place in Biratnagar on Friday.
