NEA signs joint venture agreement with Chinese firm for West Seti

NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising signs the joint venture agreement with representatives of Three Gorges for the construction of West Seti Electricity Project, on Thursday, November 16, 2017.

Kathmandu, November 16

Nepal Electricity Authority and China’s Three Gorges on Thursday signed an agreement for joint investment in the 750-megawatt West Seti Hydroelectricity Project.

The two sides signed the joint venture agreement (JVA) at the NEA headquarters in Ratnapark today.

The Chinese team had arrived in Kathmandu today for the signing.

Around 10 months ago, they had signed the preliminary joint venture agreement. Although the NEA approved the agreement within two days, the Chinese company had taken a long time to approve it, delaying the final agreement.

Established in 1993, Three Gorges is owned by the Chinese government. The company has already constructed the world’s biggest electricity project with a capacity of 22,000 megawatt.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that the technical team of Chinese company has already conducted a geological study of the project site in Doti, Baitadi, Bajhang and Dadeldhura districts of far-western Nepal.
