NCP won’t involve itself in bypoll ‘mess’, says Dahal

Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Kathmandu, October 12

Nepal Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal says his party is not in the mod of involving itself into the mess of contesting byelection in any constituency.

Dahal said so amidst reports that the party’s influential leader Bamdev Gautam decided to withdraw his plan of contesting the election in his bid to get a seat in the Federal Parliament. Earlier, it was reported that Dahal and Gautam convinced Kathmandu-7’s lawmaker Ram Bir Manandhar to resign to vacate the position so that the Election Commission conducts the bypoll there.

But, speaking at a function in Aalapot of Kathmandu today, Dahal said, “Comrade Bamdev himself said he would not contest. Therefore, the issue is over now.”

Instead of thinking about byelections, the party should concentrate on improving the government’s performance so as to take the country towards development and prosperity, according to him.

He was of the view that the government led by another Chairman of the party, KP Sharma Oli, established foundations of development in past six months.
