Kathmandu, February 22

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has dissolved the task force formed to finalise the model of unification of lower level committees of the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre.

Now, the assignment has been transferred to the secretariat comprising nine top leaders of the party.

Though central leaders of the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre announced their merger into the NCP last year, their committees at district and local levels are functioning separately till now.

Multiple attempts to finalise the unification model through different task forces have failed.

A meeting of the party secretariat on Friday morning made the decision not to extend the term of the task force led by Ram Bahadur Thapa.

During the meeting, Thapa had demanded that his panel be given one more week to conclude the task. Most of the members had also supported the demand.

However, the meeting did not accept the demand as the party chair and prime minister KP Sharma Oli was against it.

Now, the secretariat will work on the issue and submit its report to the standing committee, informs party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
