Kathmandu, October 12
The Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti Party Nepal has warned that it will leave the leftist alliance forged with CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre if it is not given 15 constituencies as the constituency distribution in the group has become trickier.
Further, Bhattarai is demanding that he be allowed to contest in Gorkha, his home district.
But, major alliance constituent, the Maoist Centre, has said it cannot leave either of the constituencies in the district for Bhattarai.
A source close to Bhattarai says he is adamant about contesting the polls from Gorkha notwithstanding the Maoist party’s reluctance.
“Cadres are pressing the party leadership to contest the polls independently with the party’s own symbol of eye if the alliance does not come up with a respectable consensus.”
Besides Gorkha, the party has demanded constituencies of Khotang, Sindhuli, Saptari, Rasuwa, Lalitpur, Makawanpur, Kapilbastu and Kailali districts among others.
