Kathmandu, March 30
Marathon talks are taking place behind close doors between leaders of the Baburam Bhattarai-led Naya Shakti and the Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, sources say.
The two parties could announce their unification even before the civic elections, Naya Shakti’s Ramchandra Jha, the party’s chief negotiator, hinted. At a central council meeting of the party in Kathmandu, Jha told party sympathisers that the unification could come as ‘New Year’ gift for the two parties. “He looked very excited when he talked about the unification.”
According to Jha, 80 per cent of the unification process has been completed.
Forum Nepal leaders have also accepted that talks are going on. The party’s co-chair Rajendra Shrestha said Forum Nepal and Naya Shakti held similar views on different issues. He, however, added that there is lot to be done for the unifcation to take place anytime soon.
