National Assembly elections: Code of conduct comes into effect

The Election Commission says the code of conduct for National Assembly elections, scheduled for February 7, has come into effect from today.

The Commission’s spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal says the code has been implemented to ensure free, fair, transparent and fear-free environment for the polls.

The government, ministers, provincial and local government officials, public corporations and their officials, security agencies, officials to be deployed for the polls, political parties and their sister organisations, candidates, people holding public positions, poll monitors and observers and private and government media have to abide by the code.

Total 83 persons have filed nominations for the 56 positions. Of them, 17 have been elected unanimously.

Three members of the 59-member Upper House will get appointed by the President upon a recommendation from the government.
