Most phase-II districts to begin vote counting on Friday only

Election Commission’s spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal

Kathmandu, December 7

The Election Commission says most districts which went to polls on Thursday are likely to begin vote counting on Friday only.

The Commission’s spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal says the count will be delayed as ballot papers have to be taken to counting venues and party representatives have to forge a consensus to begin the process.

The official, however, maintains that attempts will be made to begin counting today itself provided the ballot papers have been taken to the venue and there is political consensus.

Dhakal informs that the districts which held the voting in the first phase on November 26 will begin vote counting at 5 pm today and results are expected from some districts by Friday morning.

The Commission has set a target of four days to complete the first-past-the-post vote counts and next four days for the proportional representation votes.

Security arrangements are ready to begin vote counting in almost all districts, according to Dhakal.
