Minister inspects Melamchi work pipe-laying at midnight

Kathmandu, April 6

Nepal’s Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Jeeban Bahadur Shahi inspected pipe-laying work for the Melamchi being carried out at night in Kathmandu.

The minister set out to inspect work being done as part of the project at midnight following complaints that some of the pits dug at night were not buried in the morning.

Shahi, who saw some pits that were left open, instructed labourers to fill them immediately. Shahi instructed the contractor to not leave any pit on the road. “In the morning, the people should not feel that there are pits on the road,” he said.

The multi-billion rupee project is set to be completed by October this year. Contractors are digging roads around the city to lay pipes ahead of the deadline.
