Minister bows down to lawmaker’s pressure, dissolves elected Nepal Scouts committee

Kathmandu, August 25

Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC has dissolved the elected Executive Committee of Nepal Scouts owing to pressure from his Nepali Congress party’s lawmaker Deepak Khadka.

A letter issued by the Ministry on Monday reads that the 16-member committee led by Rabin Dahal has been dissolved by a ministerial decision.

Though the letter does not explicitly mention any reason behind the dissolution, sources say Minister KC was under pressure to dissolve the committee as soon as he joined the office.

The Minister has formed an ad-hoc committee under the leadership of Chandan Kaushik from Dhanusha. The panel has been mandated to hold elections and elect new Executive Committee and National Council as per the rules.

Why is Khadka angry with Scouts?

Nepali Congress leader and former state minister had signed an agreement with Nepal Scouts and acquired the right to rent shutters of the organisation’s building in Lainchaur.

After the expiry of contract, the organisation had called for tenders to rent its shutters.

Khadka, however, insisted that he would not take part in the process and demanded that the contract with him be expanded under the same terms and conditions including the same rent.

The Executive Committee did not pay any heed to Khadka’s pressure.
