Maoists decide to table fresh constitution amendment proposal

Kathmandu, April 6

The ruling CPN Maoist Centre party has decided to withdraw the constitution amendment proposal the government presented before Parliament and to register a fresh one.

Similarly, it has also decided to add more civic bodies in the Terai and to postpone elections in 11 districts, if need be.

A meeting of the party headquarters on Thursday has decided to propose the formation of a commission to look into issues related to the re-drawing of provincial boundaries. The party will also propose that chiefs of local bodies be excluded from the electoral college during presidential elections and amend Article 274 to shorten the process to re-draw provincial boundaries.

“We have decided to withdraw the proposal the government tabled few months ago. We will present a fresh proposal,” Maoist spokesperson Pampha Bhusal told Onlinekhabar.

The party says it is ready to add more local bodies to the Terai region if the Madheshi Morcha is ready to contest elections.
