Kathmandu, September 8

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara has urged China once again to resume trade activities via Tatopani border point between Nepal and Tibet.

The border point was closed after the earthquake on April 25, 2015 caused significant damages to infrastructures there.

“We have agreed to open, improve and upgrade our border points,” Mahara said while addressing the China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing today, “Resumption of Tatopani border point at the earliest is our border point. It holds both historic significance and current imperative in our partnership.”

Meanwhile, Mahara said mountains which stand between Nepal and China do not separate for connect the two neighbours.

“For millennia, the peoples of our countries have entered into commercial and cultural contact with each other despite the high Himalayas separating them, which has served as a link for our peoples, not as a barrier.”

Mahara delivered an eight-page speech on historical dimensions and present situations of Nepal-China relationships at the function.

“No matter which political parties lead the government in Nepal, our friendship with China has always remained close and cordial,” he said, “This is the uniqueness of Nepal-China relations.”
