Leftist alliance assures international community of balanced ties with neighbours

Kathmandu, November 7

The leftist alliance including CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre says it wants to promote balanced ties with both neighbours of Nepal–India and China.

Amid accusations that China has a role in development of the alliance, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today clarified that the alliance would not align itself with any of the countries.

He said the alliance would work against attempts to weaken Nepal’s ties with India or China. The leader added that the alliance would promote peaceful resolution of regional issues through dialogues.

In another context, Oli said the Nepal government could not rightly handle the leadership role of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) though Nepal is the current chair of regional body. He also assured that the leftist alliance would revitalise SAARC as a forum to promote cooperation and minimise tussles and differences.

The former Prime Minister was speaking with journalists while unveiling the alliance’s manifesto for upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections.
