Lawmakers of various political parties have demanded that the government brief Parliament about the murder of construction entrepreneur Sharad Kumar Gauchan and investigations carried out into the incident.

Speaking at the House meeting today, lawmakers demanded that Home Minister Janardan Sharma inform the lawmakers about investigations carried out so far. They said the government should be able to ensure security to its citizens.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada said the Home Minister should resign taking responsibility of the attack. Another Congress lawmaker Deepak Giri said the murder was evidence of increasing criminal activities in the country in the run-up to parliamentary elections.

CPN-UML’s Janardan Dhakal said the incident proved that the government was not serious about security of citizens. CPN-Maoist lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari demanded that the government take stern action against the culprit after the probe.

The President of Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN), Gauchan, was shot dead in Naya Baneshwor of Kathmandu yesterday.
