Sindupalchowk, March 22

Contractors have stopped maintenance works of the Lamosanghu-Jiri road section for an indefinite period claiming they have not been paid for their work while the safety concerns are rising.

The Road Division Office, on the other hand, has said that it will not release the contractors’ payment until they do not improve the quality of work, which so far is substandard.

The road connects Dolakha, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu districts to Kathmandu.

The road is almost ready for blacktopping.

Meanwhile, locals have been protesting that the government hasn’t been proactive to complete the works on time. The locals have complained about the dusty roads for a long time and recently beat up the construction company’s employees to show their dissatisfaction.

“We splash water on the road about three times a day, but it still remains dusty. The locals have been very aggressive towards us. We can’t work in such a hostile environment,” says Gauri Parvati Construction’s site incharge Lok Bahadur Shrestha.
