Kathmandu, January 3

The government is planning to develop Tribhuvan International Airport as a boutique airport, officials say as its facilities fail to keep up with new technology and demand of passengers.

Although the government has not prepared a clear plan to develop the only international airport in the country as a ’boutique’ airport, it has started a campaign to make it more aesthetically presentable. “In the first phase, the advertising boards around the departures area have been removed,” informs airport manager, Rajkumar Chettri.

He added that the airport within a few months would be advertisement-free. “The airport will lose some income but these advertisements don’t look aesthetically pleasing. And with plans to make it a boutique airport we will soon remove all advertisement,” adds Chettri.
