Kathmandu to roll out road sweeping machines in fight against dust

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is rolling out five sets of road sweeping machines (broomers) on Tuesday to rid the city of dust, officials said.

The machines, imported from Italy, will first be used to clean the road around Ratnapark area of Kathmandu, an official from the KMC told Onlinekhabar. Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya is expected to inaugurate the clean-up drive later in the day.

The city spent around Rs 110 million procuring the machines, five of which have an installed capacity of 16 tonnes and one has a capacity of 6 tonnes. According to KMC, the machines will be used to clean the roads at night in areas such as Kalanki, Balkhu, Kalimati, Teku, Sundhara, Tudikehl, Lainchaur, Lazimpat, Maharajganj, Tripureshwor, Thapathalu, Baneshwor, Tinkune, Airport, Singha Durbar, Hattisar, Durbar Marg, Gyaneshwor, Maitidevi, Purano Baneshwor, Sinamangal, Basantapur, Madhya Baneshwor and Bhadrakali among others.
