Kathmandu schools disobey city govt’s order to roll back fee hike

Kathmandu, May 3

Private schools in Kathmandu city have disobeyed the local government’s order to roll back the fee hike decision.

Earlier around two months ago, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City had decided to hike the fees of private schools in its jurisdiction. However, the city government had scrapped the decision after a few weeks, apparently after a criticism from the stakeholders.

The KMC had claimed that the previous decision was wrong the Education Committee was not authorised to make any decision about the fees.

However, the schools have expressed their reluctance to roll back the hike as they had hastily changed the fee structures after the Education Committee’s decision.

The schools have claimed that they have not received a formal letter from the KMC about rolling back the decision.

The KMC Education Department chief Nirmala KC, however, claims her office has already issued a public notice to withdraw the decision to hike fees.
