Kathmandu police rescue 10 women from ‘traffickers’ clutches’

Kathmandu, June 25

Police in Kathmandu say they have rescued 10 women who were reportedly being trafficked to various foreign destinations by traffickers.

The Naya Bus Park-based Metropolitan Police Sector rescued the women who were going abroad after being assured of lucrative jobs there.

Acting on a tip-off, they were held from Naya Bus Park, Swayambhu and Kalanki areas on Saturday and Sunday. Police said they were being taken to India at first via Butwal of Rupandehi. Traffickers were sending them to Butwal on a bus from the Naya Bus Park.

Some of them had their passports also.

Four of the alleged victims have been handed over to their families after a counselling whereas six persons have been sent to a local NGO for needful support.

Traffickers, however, are on the run.
