Kanchanpur border shut for 72 hours, move taken in view of polls in Uttarakhand, UP

Kanchanpur, February 13

In view of state assembly polls in India’s Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, authorities have shut the Nepal-India border adjoining Nepal’s Kanchanpur district for the next 72 hours.

In view of the February 15 polls, the western border points of Gaddachauki and Brahmadev have shut from Sunday evening. The closure of border points of Dodhara Chandani and Belauri will start on Monday evening.

The closure of the border adjoining India will continue till 5 pm on February 15, Nain Singh Karki, deputy supreintendent of police at Kanchanpur district police office, informed. The closure of border points adjoining Nepal’s Beldandi and Tribhuvan Basti will start on Tuesday evening.

It is learnt that the border closure is meant to avert untoward incidents during the elections and is being enforced at the request of the Indian government. Indian security personnel have stepped up security checking along the border and intensified patrolling.
