Kailali, July 6
Police have arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in a gang rape and murder of a 21-year-old social mobiliser in Kailali district.
Those arrested are Ganesh Baduwal (30), Manoj Bogati (27), Suraj Chaudhary (21), Bhuvan Khati (20) and Topendra Bogati (19), permanent residents of Shivapur in Gauri Ganga Municipality-11 in the district.
Of them, Baduwal and Bogati are said to be the masterminds of the crime, informed the police. Both Baduwal and Chaudhary also worked as social mobilisers in the Municipality.
Victim Maya BK, who went missing on June 26, was found dead in Chapathali Community Forest three days later. When police recovered the body, her hands were tied and her mouth blocked with a piece of cloth, which apparently was put by perpetrators to avoid noises.
While returning home from work, Baduwa and Chaudhary forcefully dragged BK to the jungle and all five men gang-raped, preliminary investigations suggested. After BK’s death, the suspects fled the scene leaving the body in the jungle.
Her relatives had filed the report of her disappearance to police on June 28.
