Jhapa: Locals nab ‘wasted’ ward chairman, force him to promise improvement

Ward Chairman of Mechinagar Municiaplity-2 in Jhapa district, Tilak Neupane, detained for reporting to office drunk, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Jhapa, March 29

Locals of Mechinagar Municipality-2 in the district have taken their ward chairman under control and handed him over to police, after he was found drunk at office.

The locals nabbed Tilak Neupane on Wednesday afternoon after he was found reporting to office under the influence of alcohol repeatedly.

Tipped off by locals, the Kakarbhitta Area Police Office had sent a team under the command of DSP Tanka Prasad Bhattarai to detain him.

Also on Wednesday, Neupane had shouted at the District Coordination Committee member Ganga Karki, members of his ward committee and locals under the influence.

In the local level elections held last year, Neupane was elected the chair representing the CPN-UML. The party has been issuing repeated warnings to him for improving his conduct.

“But, the party failed,” a local cadre says.

Neupane, however, was released from detention in the evening after he pledged not to repeat the act again.
