It’s not me, but Gopal Parajuli, who is guilty of contempt: Dr Govinda KC

Dr Govinda KC speaks with journalists in Kathmandu, on Monday, January 8, 2018.

Kathmandu, January 9

Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC, who is under trail for a contempt of court charge at the Supreme Court, denies the charge. He further says Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli’s activities are against the dignity of independent judiciary.

While he was presented before a division bench of justices Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise to record his statement this afternoon, the veteran orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital said, “He is not qualified to become a justice. Let the court probe it.”

He also accused Parajuli of possessing two citizenship certificates including the one forged in order to alter his date of birth.

Dr KC clarified that he did not want to make an insult to judiciary, but he would continue the fight against corrupt justices.

“As a conscious citizen, I have sought his resignation. I believe he should resign. Else, he will continue blocking the judiciary from becoming autonomous and independent.”

Meanwhile, the bench completed recording his statements. The hearing is underway.
