Kathmandu, July 5

Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa says international connections of criminals and criminal cases have made protection and promotion of human rights more challenging in the modern world.

Addressing a function organised by Nepal Police on Thursday, the Minister said some criminal cases that were recorded in Nepal had links with international rackets, making protection of victims more challenging.

He informed that recent cases of smuggling of gold, foreign currencies and narcotic drugs among others were examples of international level criminal cases.

Thapa, however, applauded the national police organisation for its role in human rights protection, and directed it to make the role more effective and stronger. “The more we control crimes, human rights can be protected more effectively.”

He said the government would provide necessary support to police for protection and promotion of human rights.
