Lawmaker from Makawanpur district, Indra Baniya, has been elected the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader in Province 3 unopposed.

As the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre are forming the coalition government in the Province, Baniya will be the main opposition leader in the Provincial Assembly.

A meeting of the provincial lawmakers held in Kathmandu in the presence of the Central Working Committee’s representative to the Province Mahalaxmi Upadhyaya, picked Baniya for the leadership. Earlier, former CWC member Rajaram Karki had also staked his claim to the position.

Meanwhile, Baniya said he would present his party as a strong political force in the Assembly. He added that he would appoint other officials after the party would endorse its statute regarding provincial parliamentary party committees.
