Indian climber Anjali Kulkarni, 54, has died above Camp IV on Mount Everest on Wednesday.

Officials from expedition organiser Arun Trek informed that Kulkarni, a resident of Mumbai, fell ill on the way back from the summit and died on Wednesday.

“There was a massive traffic jam on Everest yesterday. She suffered from mountain sickness and energy loss due to the traffic jam around the balcony area of Mount Everest,” says Thupden Sherpa of Arun Treks.

Anjali had made it to the top of Everest on Wednesday morning with her husband Sharad Kulkarni. They were planning to do the seven summits.

Her body is still above Camp IV. Sherpa says that a team is being sent to recover her body.

This is the 13th death above 8,000 metres during this climbing season.
