Kathmandu, April 8

The Finance Committee of House of Representatives on Monday formed two panels to visit different parts of the country and study what priorities should be addressed by the annual budget statement that the government is preparing for the next fiscal year.

The Committee’s meeting decided to send a panel led by Gyanendra Bahadur Karki to provinces 1, 2 and 3 and another one led by Surendra Pandey to Gandaki, Province 5, Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

Both Karki and Pandey are former finance ministers. Karki represents the main opposition Nepali Congress whereas Pandey belongs to the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

Karki’s team includes Juli Kumari Mahato, Pramila Rai, Metmani Chaudhary, Moti Lal Dugar, Rambabu Kumar Yadav and Sarwat Ara Khan.

Likewise, Baburam Bhattarai, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Hari Raj Adhikari, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Jaya Kumar Rai and Tulasi Thapa are members of the second team.

The teams will interact with officials of local and provincial governments as well as representatives of the private sector, according to Committee chairman Krishna Prasad Dahal.
