Home Minister to launch sting operation against corrupts, smugglers

Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur  Thapa says he will launch a sting operation targeting people indulged in corruption and smuggling.

Inaugurating a function of photojournalists in Sauraha of Chitwan today, the Minister also called on journalists to make details about contractors who do not perform their assignments on time public.

“Those who say they will carry out development activities but fail to perform on time are agents of regressive forces. They are smugglers and they block the country’s prosperity,” he said, adding the government, however, would award the contractors who truly would support the national development process.

He also said those involved in amassing property and misappropriating government property were also anti-development factors.

In another context, Thapa said the government was drafting and finalising various laws and policies to head towards prosperity for next few years.

The Minister also called on journalists from the across the country to support the government in its mission.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister and Nepal Communist Party leader Surendra Pandey told journalists at the function that banknotes of denomination Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 should be banned in order to produce corruption in the country.

He also added that Nepal should go to digital currency system.
