High Court’s stay order against new leadership of Belaka-4 in Udayapur

Udayapur, August 3

The Okhaldhunga High Court has issued an interim order in the name of newly elected people’s representatives of Belaka Municipality-4 in Udayapur district not to start works until a next verdict.

A division bench comprising judges Tekraj Nepal and Deependra Bahadur Bam on Wednesday gave the order in response to disputes surfaced after the number of ballot papers counted was four more than the recorded number of cast ballots in the Ward Number 4 of Belaka Municipality were found.

Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Center, stating that they would not entertain the extra ballots, had moved the court demanding repolling or recounting.

They had claimed that the polling officer allowed to complete the voting and CPN-UML candidate Deepak Dangal and other four members were announced victorious in the election.

Belaka Municipality election officer Hari Prasad Pokhrel and voting officer Shyam Narayan Pandit among others have been named as defendants in the case.
