Govt unveils new official map of federal Nepal

Minister for Land Management, Padma Kumari Aryal, launches the official map of Nepal, in Kathmandu, on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

Kathmandu, March 7

The government on Thursday unveiled the new official map of Nepal, for the first time after the country turned federal.

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal made the map public amidst a function in Kathmandu today.

The map mentions names of three provinces–Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim whereas other four provinces are numbered as 1, 2, 3 and 5.

Minister Aryal said the government could not name all the provinces as the concerned provincial assemblies did not finalise the names.

She informed that the Ministry would make new maps of individual provinces, districts and local units on the basis of the country map.

This is Nepal’s third officially launched administrative map. Before Nepal adopted federalism, the map launched in 1992/3 was in use as the official one.
