Govt to shut down LPG bottling plants if they fail to meet standards

Kathmandu, January 5

Owing to increasing risks posed by liquefied petroleum gas bottling plants to human settlements nearby, the government says it is launching an extensive monitoring campaign today with a mission to shut down the plants failing to meet safety standards.

The Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology says the plants failing to abide by set standards will face action as per the law.

Around 14 months ago, the Bureau had directed all bottling plants to meet the standards and receive the NS mark. However, very few companies have paid heed to the Bureau’s decision so far.

Only four of total 55 bottling plants have received the NS mark so far.

Now, the Bureau has decided to launch the monitoring again in the wake of a deadly fire erupted at the Super Gas Udyog in Birgunj of Parsa around two weeks ago.
