Various ministries and other bodies under the government have spent just eight per cent of total allocated budget in the first four months of the current fiscal year, informs the Ministry of Finance.

However, the agencies have already filed demands to release Rs 54 billion more budget during the period, Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal informs. He adds that the government does not have budget to address the new requests as those were not covered in the annual budget announcement.

Therefore, Secretary Khanal has asked the ministries to spend the allocated budget first before demanding additional allocations.

“Programmes  which have received the budget have not been implemented. But, files have been submitted demanding billions of rupees for new projects,” Khanal said, at a meeting of the Finance Committee in Parliament today, “First, you have to spend the allocated budget before demanding additional one.”
