Chitwan, August 2

The government of Nepal has scrapped a decision of the Agriculture and Forestry University to grant affiliation to eight forestry colleges based in various parts of the country claiming the decision breached university’s rules.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel says a recent Cabinet meeting made the decision.

A meeting of the University’s Executive Council around a month ago had granted the affiliation to Jhapa’s Purbanchal Krishi Campus, Sunsari’s Jivika Krishi Sahakari Sanstha, Lalitpur’s Valley Krishi Campus, Nawalparasi’s Himchhaya College, Nawalparasi’s Ram Nagar Technical and Management College, Nawalparasi’s Siddhartha College, Banke’s Gorkha Polytechnical College and Research Centre, and Surkhet’s Bright Madhyapashchim Krishi tatha Ban Bigyan Campus.

The affiliatio was granted on the basis of 10 terms and conditions.

The decision had turned controversial after professors and students of the university claimed the affiliation was distributed after some officials received hefty sums illegally. The officials, however, have claimed that they followed due procedures in making the decision.
