Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa meets demonstrators, in Kanchanpur, on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.

Mahendranagar, November 21

Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa says the investigation into the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur district of western Nepal cannot conclude unless Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s term ends.

Addressing a meeting of his party’s cadres in Mahendranagar on Wednesday, the youth leader said Home Minister Thapa, who is also known as Badal, has been the ‘badal’, which means cloud, over hopes of parents of girls like Nirmala Pant.

“Earlier, I had questioned the competency of Minister Thapa,” the opposition leader said, “Listening to his statements over recent incidents, it seems there is cloud over his competence, and he has been the cloud for many other parents.”

“There will be no rains until the clouds are cleared. Dirt of our society will not be removed before it rains,” he metaphorically said.

He demanded that Home Minister Thapa resign.

Earlier, the Congress leader met parents of Pant in front of the District Administration Office, where the could are staging an indefinite demonstration.

Thapa had assured the couple that he would hold talks with top leaders of both ruling and opposition sides over the issue.
