Gagan Thapa challenges Chief Justice Parajuli to file contempt case against him

Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa addresses supporters of Dr Govinda KC, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

Kathmandu, January 9

Extending his solidarity to medical reform education activist Dr Govinda KC, who has been arrested by police following a Supreme Court order on a contempt of court charge, former Health Minister and Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has challenged Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli to convict him as well in the case.

Addressing a mass of Dr KC’s supporters who gathered for a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala, in front of the Supreme Court, as police took him to the bench today, Thapa said if what Dr KC said against the Court would be a contempt, all his supporters should be booked for that.

Former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai and Bibeksheel Sajha Party Coordinator Rabindra Mishra also took part in the protest.

Thapa claimed the contempt case filed against Dr KC was a result of personal vengeance.

“The court should stand itself not on any article of any law, but the faith of people,” he said, “When it loses people’s trust, it will stumble.”
