Almost all newspapers published in Kathmandu on Monday, the first day after Dashain, have prioritised reports on Nepal Police HQ’s preparation to fire two officers involved in the initial investigation of the Nirmala Pant murder and rape case. Police HQ recommends officers fired

The Himalayan Times reports that the Nepal Police Headquarters has initiated the process to sack suspended SP Dilliraj Bista and Inspector Jagadish Bhatta who investigated the Nirmala Pant case. The report says that the HQ has recommended that the Ministry of Home Affairs dismiss the suspended officers by rendering them disqualified to hold any government post in the future. The Kathmandu Post reports that the ministry has given the duo 24 hours to defend charges against them. “If their clarification is not convincing, both could be removed from the service,” the paper quotes a source as saying.

Naya Patrika reports that at least a dozen policemen involved in the investigation are likely to face action as an AIG-led committee submits its report in the next few days.

Ministry preparing to nominate 10 ambassadors

Kantipur reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing to appoint ambassadors to 10 Nepali diplomatic posts abroad. The paper says the ministry has prepared a roster of qualified candidates for the positions. The paper quotes Minister Pradeep Gyawali to say that nominations will be made before Tihar.

31 killed in 23 road accidents during Dashain

Annapurna Post reports that 23 cases of road accidents were reported during the Dashain holidays this year. The report says that at least 31 people lost their lives in the accidents.
